Nikon 1 J2 Offers Updated LCD, New Creative Modes
The Nikon J2 carries the same essential guts as its predecessor, starting with a 10.1 megapixel "CX" format sensor measuringThe body of the camera is slightly different, now metallic with a less slippery texture than the sleek, composite J1. The J2 is compatible with 1 NIKKOR lenses, all very compact with a retracting design. Now that retraction will actually power the camera on and off. Rather than pushing the power button and extending the lens from its "rest" position, J2 shooters can simply extend the lens to turn the camera on. That's a handy feature that might help aspiring street shooters catch their decisive moments.
A new Creative Mode on the J2's mode dial provides users with Panorama, Miniature, Soft, Backlighting and Selective Color processing modes. Creative types might find the J2's new body colors appealing too. In addition to white, black, silver and pink, the J2 will be offered in red and orange options.
New 1 NIKKOR 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
Introduced with the J2 is a new 11-27.5mm wide angle zoom lens. It's smaller than the existing 10-30mm zoom sold with many J1 kits, offering a 30-74mm equivalent range thanks to the 1 system's 2.7x crop factor. A new WP-N1 underwater case for the J1 and J2 is also introduced. Not compatible with the V1, the case will provide protection up to 40 feet underwater.
Pricing and Availability
The Nikon 1 J2 will arrive in September 2012. Bundled with the 10-30mm lens it will sell for $549.95. The 1 NIKKOR 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 will be available around the same time for $189.95. The WP-N1 waterproof housing will set you back $749.95, also arriving this fall.
